Maria Bieșu (1935–2012) was a celebrated Moldovan opera soprano and the prima donna of the National Opera in Chișinău. She attained international acclaim performing on major global stages, including Milan's La Scala, and won first prize in Tokyo where she was named the "Best Cio-Cio-San in the World". Today, the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Moldova in Chișinău bears her name.
