Two Geniuses, One Concert – Rachmaninoff & Enescu
On May 6, Moldo Crescendo presents a truly special evening of chamber music, featuring two major personalities of the 20th century: Sergei Rachmaninoff and George Enescu. Both composers lived and created in the same era, and the works performed in this concert belong to their early creative period.
George Enescu’s Trio in G minor, composed at just 15 years old, was first performed in 1898 at the private salon of Princess Elena Bibescu, a celebrated pianist and influential figure of the time. It was revived only in 2015 at the Cluj Musical Autumn Festival. Based on available information, this work has likely never been performed publicly in the Republic of Moldova – making this event a true national premiere.
Alongside this, the program includes Rachmaninoff’s Trio élégiaque No. 2 in D minor, composed at the age of 20 in memory of his mentor and friend, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Monumental in scope, with a duration of nearly 50 minutes, the piece is considered by many to be a symphony in miniature and is rarely heard in concert due to its emotional depth and technical demands.
Performers:
Dan-Iulian Druțac, violin – graduate of universities in Madrid and London
Constantin Borodin, cello – graduate of universities in Bucharest and Berlin
Marcel Lazăr, piano – graduate of universities in Cluj-Napoca, Salzburg, Bucharest, and Vienna
This is a truly rare and beautiful program in Moldova – we warmly recommend not to miss this concert!
