CABERNET SAUVIGNON Blind: The Battle of Aromas
Wines from Small Local Producers

19 February | 19:00
Wine Republic – 86 Alexei Șciusev Street
Price: 450 MDL

We invite you to a blind tasting dedicated to one of the most respected international grape varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon – interpreted by small local producers. An evening where labels disappear and aromas become the only reference point.

Our wine shop’s chef-sommelier, Vadim Brînzeanu, has selected 6 wines from 6 small producers of the Republic of Moldova. Each wine will be tasted blind, and participants will analyze structure, aromatic intensity, tannin balance, and terroir expression without the influence of brand or preconceived ideas.

Cabernet Sauvignon originates from Bordeaux, France, and is the result of a natural crossing between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in the 17th century. Thanks to its thick skins and resilience to various climatic conditions, it has become one of the most widely planted red grape varieties in the world.

In our region, Cabernet Sauvignon was introduced in the 19th century, alongside the development of modern viticulture in Bessarabia. The moderate continental climate, with warm summers and long autumns, allows full ripening of the grapes, producing wines with deep color, firm structure, and strong aging potential. Particularly in the southern and central areas, the variety expresses notes of blackcurrant, ripe cherry, and dried plum, often complemented by hints of black pepper, tobacco, and vanilla when aged in barrique.

Cabernet Sauvignon deserves attention not only for its global reputation but also for its ability to faithfully reflect terroir. During this tasting, you will discover how the same grape variety can express itself differently depending on soil, microclimate, and winemaking style — from more supple and fruit-forward wines to fuller-bodied examples with well-defined tannins and a persistent finish.

To complete the experience, carefully selected food pairings will be served, designed to complement the structure and aromatic profile of the wines, enhancing the tannins, fruit character, and balance of each Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Battle of Aromas is not just a comparison of wines, but a sensory exploration and an opportunity to support small producers shaping the contemporary identity of Moldovan wine.
