Wine Republic, 86 Alexei Șciusev Street
Price: 580 MDL
We invite you to an evening dedicated to the roots of Romanian winemaking — a tasting that highlights ancient grape varieties which have preserved their identity, history, and authentic character over centuries.
The tasting will be guided by the chief sommelier of our wine shop, Vadim Brînzeanu, who will lead you on a journey through time, terroir, and tradition.
The grape varieties featured in this tasting have been cultivated on Romanian territory since the Middle Ages, with some having even older origins, documented in historical records and local chronicles. They have endured changes in climate, styles, and preferences, and are now being rediscovered and carefully interpreted by wineries that respect authenticity and regional character.
The tasting will feature the following wines made from ancient Romanian grape varieties:
Domeniile Panciu – Șarbă Barrique
Dry white wine produced from a rare autochthonous grape variety of the Vrancea region. Șarbă is based on local genetic heritage and is known for its expressive aromas and natural balance. Barrel aging adds depth and structure while preserving the grape’s identity.
Bauer – Crâmpoșie Selecționată
Dry white wine from an ancient grape variety traditionally grown in southern Romania, especially Oltenia. Crâmpoșia is appreciated for its freshness, vibrant acidity, and clear expression of terroir.
Avincis – Negru de Drăgășani
Dry red wine made from a native grape variety deeply rooted in the Drăgășani region. Negru de Drăgășani is a noble Romanian variety, rediscovered in recent decades, known for its elegance and aging potential.
Novak – Novac
Dry red wine from a rare ancient grape variety with a long history in southern Romania. Novac stands out for its solid structure and distinctive, authentic character.
Poiana – Busuioacă de Bohotin
Semi-dry rosé wine from a traditional aromatic variety originating in historical Moldavia. Busuioacă de Bohotin is one of the oldest and most recognizable Romanian grape varieties, noted for its intense floral aromas.
Crama Neamțu – Tămâioasă Românească
Semi-dry white wine from a grape variety with centuries-old, possibly even ancient, origins dating back to the Daco-Roman period. Tămâioasă Românească is an iconic aromatic variety traditionally associated with festive and ceremonial wines.
Three of the wines in this selection have been brought especially from Romania for this tasting, exclusively for you, to offer a unique opportunity to discover, taste, and understand them directly from their place of origin.
Throughout the evening, you will explore the history of these grape varieties, their journey through time, the regions where they were first cultivated, and how tradition, climate, and terroir shape the style and character of each wine.
A tasting for those who seek meaning, depth, and authenticity in the glass, in a carefully curated setting at Wine Republic.
